A true Miami local who has not at the very least heard of Afrobeta is no true Miami local. The band first broke onto the Miami music scene in 2006, when Smurphio, the band’s keybordist and Cuci met at a Suenalo concert. Since then, the band has become a staple in local music, producing a truly Miami-inspired sound that is “full of funky synths, skittering beats, infectious melodies, and bilingual seduction.” Their singles “Play House” and “Do You Party” have gained national recognition and their popularity has led to the genesis of a “slutty” sister project called the BeatMachines.
Recently, the duo came together to tape a live recording of their latest track ‘Clones’ for Wynwood Sessions. Wynwood Sessions is a premier in-studio concert series based in Miami that showcases intimate performances by “some of the best local artists as well as those passing by our Magic City”. Watch the video for ‘Clones’ by Afrobeta below and catch the band performing next month at the Virginia Key Grassroots Festival.
