What better way is there to spend a Saturday afternoon than by floating listlessly in the pristine waters of Miami’s beaches? Floatopia, which has been taking place in Santa Monica California since 2004 had it’s first east coast installment in Miami last year. This year, the party returns to South Pointe Park on South Beach.
It’s the perfect excuse to ditch the club and harness some quality Vitamin D with your friends. You can either bring your own rafts or other home-made or store bought floating devices and set yourself loose along the coastlines or partying on the beach. Participation is free and while drinking is allowed on the floats, the organizers do ask that they are put into discreet containers so as to give the wonder Miami Beach police no reason to stop the party.
If you plan on heading out, we suggest reading the five tips for successful floating that the New Times put together. While plenty of the suggestions are sort of obvious, they are worth mentioning, especially for first time floaters.
