Basel in Focus: Homegrown, Not Highbrow

Following up on our previous ‘Basel in Focus’ segment, this post aims to focus on the local artists that are being featured in various shows throughout Miami’s Art Week. One of the best things about the convergence of the art world in our little corner of the worlds is that it gives our local artists and exhibitors a moment in the spotlight.

There is, after all, a reason that Basel chose to come here. Precariously placed on the cusp of two worlds, Miami straddles the North and South, and serves as the major port of Entry for the West, which results in a cultural landscape that is constantly bubbling with new flavors based on varied influences, producing many notable and successful artists.

Basel becomes a time for local artists to shine, and while some chose to have their pieces included in the mix in larger shows, others have opted to stick close to their roots, showing their works in solo exhibitions in local galleries and in small group shows featuring a few select artist. Some of Miami’s greatest musicians will also be coming out for the week, performing across various venues. Below are some of Local Artists, Performers and Galleries to keep an eye out for throughout the week.
